Woman Health Worker Bags Global UN Award

The United Nations has conferred the ‘UN Frontline Workers Global Leadership Award’ on Martha Dodray, an Auxiliary Nurse & Midwife (ANM) from Darbhanga district of Bihar. She represented the worldwide Polio frontline workers, whose contribution to the cause of global health has been recognised and awarded by the United Nations Foundation this year.

Besides Dodray, awards were bestowed on Malala Yousafzai for speaking out for girls education in Pakistan; US ambassador to the UN Samantha Power for her fierce commitment to human rights; General Electric, Africa, their work in improving health care for women and children through the Secretary-General’s ‘Every Woman Every Child’ movement; filmmakers ’10×10′ who created ‘Girl Rising’ to raise awareness of the importance of girls’ education; and other front-line polio workers like Dodrey.
