Millennium Development Goals Report 2012

The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) agreed to by world leaders over a decade ago have achieved important results. The Report 2012 was launched in New York by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on July 2, 2012. It presents the yearly assessment of global progress towards the MDGs, highlighting several milestones.

According to the report, three important MDG targets have been met well ahead of the target date of 2015. The report says that meeting the remaining targets, while challenging, remain possible only if Governments do not waiver from their commitments made over a decade ago.

Regions Classified

This report presents data on progress towards the Millennium Development Goals for the world as a whole and for various country groupings. These are classified as “developing” regions and “developed” regions. The developing regions are further broken down into the sub-regions shown on the map above. These regional groupings are based on United Nations geographical divisions, with some modifications necessary to create, to the extent possible, groups of countries for which a meaningful analysis can be carried out.
